I am at that age, where every Sunday I peruse the obituaries in the Orange County Register. Don't ask me why I do it, because I really don't know why. Am I looking for parents of friends? Or, am I looking for long-lost friends and acquaintances? Who knows?!One thing that bugs me about some obituaries are the photos that are attached. These are the photos that were taken 30-40 years ago, and somehow we're supposed to believe that this is the way they looked when they died.
Case in point is this photo I've posted. It's a picture of a famous songwriter, who wrote "Chapel of Love" and many more songs. She recently died at the age of 68. This does not look like a photo of someone who is 68. Did she never have any pictures taken the last 18 years of her life? Is she a recluse who's not been photographed in 20 years? Was her family thinking that she was frozen in time at this age?
When I pass away, I don't really want an obituary in a newspaper. But, if I did, I would ask that a recent photo be submitted, showing every wrinkle, from laughs and life.
