At 10:00 a.m. today, millions of people throughout Southern California participated in The Shake Out Drill, the largest earthquake preparedness activity in U.S. history. My school, along with all schools and colleges, had a complete drill with scenarios, injuries/death (pretend), and contact with first responders. This drill reminded me of the importance of having an "out-of-area" contact person. I think that we've discussed this before, but here's a reminder that we should call Uncle Tom and Aunt Marty in the event of a disaster. They can be our "headquarters" to relay news, locations, important information, etc. We may not be able to use our phones or cell-phones locally, and may have more success calling them in San Carlos. I've, also, heard that text messages might be easier to send during a disaster, rather than speaking to someone via phone. So, let's program their telephone number into our cell-phones now, as we think about it. BE PREPARED, NOT SCARED!
