The classic Etch A Sketch toy—made by The Ohio Art Company—has, surprisingly, become a unique medium for artistic works. Underneath the glass screen there is a coating of aluminum powder that, when scraped by a stylus controlled horizontally and vertically by separate knobs, creates a design. Though seemingly simplistic, it takes a keen mixture of artistic skill and geometric understanding to create a design that looks like something more than just chicken scratch.
