Text Message Volunteering

It's a new world, and we've got to embrace it! If your kid wants to give back this summer, but doesn't know where to start, let her/his thumbs do the walking. Do Something (dosomething.org)- a youth community service non-profit- now connects teens with volunteering opportunities near them via text message. When a child age 13 to 18 sends "Do Something" to 30644, they're prompted to reply with their zip code to receive local volunteer gigs. These volunteer opportunities are screened for safety and legitimacy. Your teen will receive texts, with updates, every two weeks. The updates, also, include URLs so teens can go online for more info. Most high schools require volunteer hours to graduate now, so this might be a perfect way to hook up with a charity in need, and get those hours signed off.
