Death Valley Days (without Ronald Reagan)

I added another national park to my "passport" this week.  My friend, Sue, and I went to Death Valley for three days.  It was a very interesting area to visit.  I had never been before, so I didn't know what to expect.   The desert has always been beautiful to me and I found Death Valley to be an amazing sight!  The rock formations, salt flats, sunsets, snowcapped peaks, and the desolation were spectacular.  I did not realize that Death Valley only became a national park in 1994.
I thoroughly enjoyed the tour of Scotty's Castle at the north end of the park.  It was like a miniature Hearst Castle in the middle of NOWHERE.
We stayed in a little cabin at Furnace Creek Ranch.  Visited the nearby 4-star resort of Furnace Creek Inn to sit on their veranda and watch the sunset.
If I were to return to Death Valley, it would probably be to see the spring wildflowers that are abundant after a rainy winter.  The weather was quite chilly during our visit, but nothing compared to a summer's day of devastating heat.
